Women on the Water Documentary Screening

  • Capitol Theatre 204 Massachusetts Avenue Arlington, MA, 02474 United States (map)

Join us for an evening about the ocean! Learn about local seafood, fishing, and the environment, and how these intersect with the food you eat in this documentary and discussion with the cast and filmmakers. We are going to screen Women on the Water. Also enjoy fruit, cheese, and seltzer water on us! The Capital Theater also has concessions (plus beer & wine).

In honor of International Fisher Women's Day, we've set ticket price to an optional donation the Boston Local Food Program. Or Program collaborates with local businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and individuals to elevate the local food makers across the food system. We appreciate any donation amount. May of these businesses are women owned. All donations help us to continue to support and help our local small businesses. Every donation from the documentary screening is put towards our Technical Assistance Pilot Program. We understand that starting and running a local food business presents unique challenges, and opportunities. The Technical Assistance Pilot Program is designed to provide targeted support to address these needs.

Women on the Water tells the stories of six women in New Hampshire who have overcome personal and societal challenges to establish themselves in lobstering, oyster farming, tuna fishing, and seafood distribution on their own terms. Discover what independence, determination, and grit look like for women making a name for themselves on the water in the Granite State.

We are going to welcome the producer of Women on the Water and two of the fisherfolk behind the camera. You’ll have the chance to ask them your burning questions and dive deeper into the reality of life on the water.
